The Kicker position in fantasy football has always been a true wildcard. Is it time for it to go?
The popular strategy when drafting a kicker is to target the kickers from the top scoring offenses. Other considerations when drafting include the kicker’s accuracy rate and distance ability - since longer field goals are worth more in many scoring formats. Once the season begins, many owners add and drop kickers based on matchup. In my 15+ years of playing fantasy football, I have had decent success drafting and managing my kickers. However, I did decide to omit them from some leagues that I am managing this season.
I kicked the kicker position out of the Ballblogger’s Legends League. I believe that getting rid of the kicker eliminates the level of luck associated with them in fantasy terms. Yes, it is a rush when you win or lose a close weekly matchup thanks to a late field goal on Monday Night Football. I will miss that element of the position but overall, I’m fine with parting ways.
I'm running the Legends League on MyFantasyLeague.com (MFL) which offers the most customization of any league out there. If you haven’t yet, see why so many industry professional and fantasy ballers are using this site for their leagues. One feature that MFL does very well is Blind Bidding and Free Agent Budgets (FAB) for waiver acquisitions. The Legends League will be using a $1k Free Agent Budget for acquiring players from the waiver-wire. Once a week, every manager gets a chance to make a Blind Bid using FAB money to acquire any available player. The manager who makes the highest bid gets the player.
