The biggest story of the Fantasy Football preseason is the Josh Gordon appeal. It's simple, if he wins the appeal and gets to play a full season or near a full season, he's a first round pick that could win you a fantasy title. Furthermore, if he plays, the value of the Browns offensive players (Manziel, Hoyer, Jordan Cameron etc.) all get a big time boost.
The Browns have asked the league to make a decision asap so they can move on with their preparations for the season. Knowing whether or not they will have the services of one of the most dynamic WR's in the game is a big deal. It looks like the league has respected this request as Gordon and his team of lawyers are due in court today to make their argument. I expect this process and a league ruling/decision on Gordon to happen rather swiftly.
Gordon's lawyers will argue that second hand smoke was to blame. "Second Hand Smoke" will now be a popular team name in fantasy football. Apparently, Gordon's failed test results (marijuana) were only slightly above allowed limits and the discrepancies in the two failed samples may hint at them being less credible. Anyway, I've heard several respected industry professionals say that they think Gordon's appeal is strong and that he could see the field this season. A key component of all of this is that Gordon's recent DUI can not be used against him at this point in time.
Only time will tell. In the meantime, all of us involved in the Legends League draft have a tough decision to make on Gordon. We are now in the 6th round of this 12 team, 2 QB league. Do we take a flyer on him here in the 6th or 7th? Or do we opt for safer options?
One thing is for certain, a gamble on Josh Gordon at this point in the draft could pay off big time. However, it still is a gamble. Would you spin the Roulette Wheel and Draft Gordon Now Or Not?
