Breaking News! Tim Wright was just acquired by the Patriots via trade. Wright has great talent and this is a big time trade. Wright's fantasy value gets a big bump. Tampa's rookie TE, Seferian-Jenkins also gets a big boost in value.
The usage of Tight Ends in NFL offenses has drastically changed. We all know the NFL has turned into a passing league and TE's are a big part of this new age. Coordinators have learned that the tall, fast, athletic, former basketball player of an athlete makes for some amazing mismatches. Defenses are struggling to catch up/adapt to the Jimmy Graham type TE. For now, TE's have the upper hand. Some of the TE's with similar attributes (former hoop players) to Jimmy Graham include Julius Thomas, Ladarius Green, Jordan Cameron and Tim Wright. Zach Ertz and Tyler Eifert could also draw comparison given size, speed and athleticism. No, I'm not saying that all these TE's are equal to Graham. However, I am claiming that they have a lot more in common than most may realize. This will be the year of the TE. I see great depth at the position. I'm not worried about missing out on Graham or Julius. Offensive Coordinators and Quarterbacks have plenty of film on how to maximize and take advantage of these freak athletes abilities.
Just how deep is TE this year? Tim Wright is not being drafted in many fantasy leagues. Check out this game film on Tim Wright by my man @DanJay.
There's a few rookie TE's that have flashed in preseason and there is another ten or so TE's that I haven't mentioned in this article that will have solid fantasy seasons. Yes, Graham, Julius and Gronk are in the top tier right now but they will have some company in this tier once the season gets going.
In the Ballblogger Fantasy Legends League, I drafted Eifert and Ertz in the later rounds. This is a league where you can flex a TE and I plan on starting this duo every week I can.
Never in the history of fantasy football has the TE position been so deep with fantasy upside, potential and talent. This will be a historic year of production for TE's!
